During wildfire exposure, wind-blown embers, radiant heat, and flame contact can reach attic, eave, soffit, gable, dormer, foundation, and crawlspace vents.

A good wildfire vent must support airflow during normal conditions while helping block ember intrusion and active flame exposure during a wildfire event.

Why vents matter in home hardening

Home hardening is the work of reducing the ways a structure can ignite. It includes defensible space, roof and gutter maintenance, exterior material choices, protected openings, evacuation planning, and code-aware product selection.

Vents matter because they connect the exterior environment to concealed spaces. Embers that pass through ordinary vent openings may reach combustible material inside attics or crawlspaces.

The ember-blocking layer

V2 Vents use corrosion-resistant stainless steel ember mesh to help block embers from entering the vent opening. Mesh selection matters because the vent still needs to support airflow, moisture management, and building ventilation.

The active flame-defense layer

The V2 Honeycomb Matrix is the intumescent matrix core of V2 Vents. At critical temperature, the matrix expands and helps form a protective barrier at the vent opening. That barrier is designed to help block heat and flames during wildfire exposure.

Testing and listing

V2 Vents are tested and listed to ASTM E2886 / E2886M / E2912 for flames, embers, and radiant heat. Testing supports code-aware product selection, but it should not be described as a whole-home guarantee.

California wildfire code discussions often reference older Chapter 7A language. Current project teams should also consider CWUIC Chapter 5 where applicable, local enforcement requirements, and the specific vent application.

Retrofit and new construction uses

V2 Vents can be used in new construction and retrofit projects when the product type, size, material, and installation details match the opening. Common applications include eave vents, soffit vents, dormer vents, gable vents, foundation vents, and other vented assemblies.

In coastal or salt air environments within approximately 10 miles of the ocean, stainless steel or specialized coatings should be considered for corrosion exposure.

Review How It Works, explore V2 Vents, or Build With Us for project guidance.

Ember-resistant wildfire vents combine airflow, ember mesh, and active flame defense.
